Objectives
Design a new website and suite of applications for Morgan Stanley individual account holders, combining the functions of the two existing Morgan Stanley brokerages: MSDW Online (formerly Discover Brokerage) and Dean Witter. Our mandate was to design this entire new entire front end and to code 100+ template pages in HTML -- then to turn over these specs and materials to the Morgan Stanley IT department for implementation.
Results
We successfully completed the project, and our sponsors in the Morgan Stanley marketing department were quite pleased with our work and eager to see the results implemented. However, shortly after the engineering began, the entire upper layer of Morgan Stanley management was replaced. Many ongoing projects (including this one) were cancelled to allow these new VPs to set their own direction for the future of the company.
My Role
I led the project, managing and collaborating with a junior UE designer and a team of HTML developers. I served as the principal client contact. I set the overall direction for the designs, requesting changes as needed. I directly participated in the HTML development, coding many of the most elaborate or difficult pages in order to ensure the results I wanted. In some cases I further modified the designs, as needed, during this coding process. I also designed and coded the DHTML for the dynamically expanding left nav.
